The Fundamentals of Art Course is intended to give students a chance to explore a wide variety of art concepts, styles and mediums. Students will learn about drawing, painting and ceramics along with many other types of art. Students will begin to understand art as meaning making and how to explain their meaning through artist statements.
Learning about juxtaposition and the color wheel:
Objective: Through this project you will learn about the color wheel, juxtaposition and artist Corita Kent. By using words and advertisements you will create an aesthetically pleasing composition that also has a meaning. You must consider color when you are working on your collage. After your collage is created you will learn how to make a grid over the collage to help you with your drawing. The final outcome will be a collage and a larger scale drawing of the same collage. |

Learning about iconography:
Objective: Create an icon that represents you. You will reproduce this icon through painting, ceramics and found object. The icon will be drawn and then painted with watercolors or acrylic paint. The ceramic tile will be rolled out on the slab roller, carved and glazed. The found object will be something that relates to your icon. You will need to find an object to transfer your icon onto. During this series piece you will learn how to use a variety of materials to convey your personal icon. This project will be accompanied by an artist statement that supports your choices and overall meaning of your icon. |
